OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on GPT-4: 'people are begging to be disappointed and they will be' - The Verge
On AI changing education and the threat of AI plagiarism: "We're going to try and do some things in the short term. There may be ways we can help teachers be a little bit more likely to detect output of a GPT-like system, but a determined person will get around them, and I don't think it'll be something society can or should rely on long term. Generated text is something we all need to adapt to, and that's fine. We adapted to calculators and changed what we tested in maths class, I imagine. This is a more extreme version of that, no doubt. But also the benefits of it are more extreme as well."
Is the Pandemic School Surveillance State Here to Stay?
GoGuardian is a software company that makes, essentially, spyware: software that helps teachers and schools block and monitor what kids are doing online. When a student is using a school-issued Chromebook that has GoGuardian on it, the teacher can see just about everything they're doing. These technologies have been embraced by teachers and state Departments of Education alike, but students are less enthralled with having their online lives constantly surveilled. On Friday's episode of What Next: TBD, I spoke with Priya Anand, a tech reporter for Bloomberg who wrote a story on GoGuardian, about the rise of the school surveillance state and the implications of this technology for student's mental health and privacy. Lizzie O'Leary: You wrote for Bloomberg about Pekin Community High School in Illinois, which has been using GoGuardian for three years.
Neural Networks and Self Driving Car without any complex Mathematics :
My strategy in this article is to equip you with the basic steps that go into building a neural network in order to solve a task we are interested in. Rest assured, there will be no mathematics involved!!! Deep Learning technique requires us to train a Neural Network which is an algorithm that learns from data (usually more the data, better the learning). The principle is to provide lots of labelled data. Hey! wait a minute, i will explain what labelled data means, but let me first familiarise with the analogy that we are going to use in order to debunk the working of Neural Networks. Here, we will consider the scenario of a math class in school. I know math is not very exciting for most of the people, that's why i selected the math class to make math more interesting.
What math classes are relevant for machine learning?
Finally, you need to have practical experience. Nothing better than connecting with a community that has the same interests as you. You can also face competitions. Most of this answer comes from a previous answers 1 and 2 that I gave to this (Brazilian) site. I must have forgotten lots of great references... Sorry about that.
R Fundamentals: Building a Simple Grade Calculator
R is one of the most popular languages for statistical analysis, data science, and reporting. At Dataquest, we have been adding R courses (you can learn more in our recent update). In this tutorial, we'll teach you the basics of R by building a simple grade calculator. While we do not assume any R-specific knowledge, you should be familiar with general programming concepts. This tutorial is based on part of our newly released introductory R course.
How to make your child a maths genius
Researchers have found that children become better at math if their whole bodies are engaged while learning. They also found that many children improve at math if the way it's taught is individualized to each child. The research could have an impact on new teaching methods and the incorporation of physical activity during the school day. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, investigated whether different types of math learning strategies change the way children solve math problems. The research, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, was conducted over a six-week period and involved testing the mathematical abilities of school children with an average age of seven years old.
